  1. Bill Simmons (1924-2016)

    Bill was the long time beloved equipment manager for the Cardinals. He was a veteran of both WWII and Korean Wars. Bill worked 21 seasons for the Big Red and retired prior to the team moved to Arizona. Simmons passed in 2016.

    Beloved husband of the late Katie Simmons; loving father of Dan and wife Elaine Simmons, Tim and wife Roseanne Simmons, Sue and husband John Beamon, Kathy and husband Mark Murphy, and the late Jerri Pat Simmons-Mort and husband Ken Mort; dear grandfather of Tony and wife Celeste Simmons, Tracy Simmons, Amy and husband Logan Place, Brent and wife Andrea Simmons, Bradley Simmons, Matthew and wife Christine Beamon, David and wife Kelly Murphy, and Daniel and wife Esther Murphy; Bill was also great grandfather of nine, a cousin and good friend.

    A memorial visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 751 Jefferson Street, Florissant MO, on Thursday, October 20, 2016, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until Mass time at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

    Bill was drafted into the United States Army and assigned to the Air Corps in World War II. He was an armorer / gunner on B-24s with the 328th Bomber Squadron of the Eighth Air Force in England. He was a Staff Sergeant and flew as a waist and ball turret gunner. In January, 1951, he was recalled to service with the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant.

    Bill was a teacher and coach with the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

    From 1966 to 1987, he served as equipment manager for the St. Louis Football Cardinals.
