Ed Cook, who was a good defensive tackle at Notre Dame for Frank Leahy in ’53 and ’54, died last week at the age of 75.
According to his good pal and former roommate, Tony Pasquesi, Ed died back in Sewell, N.J., from cancer.
Cook and Pasquesi were also teammates and defensive tackles on the Chicago Cardinals football team before the franchise moved to Arizona.
Cook looked forward to joining Tony at Reunions and seeing his ’55 classmates.
Ed’s Mom also was the hero of Dick Szymanski’s spleen surgery after the Penn game in Philadelphia. When Ed invited a bunch of his teammates to dinner after the game and Dick said he didn’t feel well enough to eat, Mrs. Cook called the family doctor who came to the house and rushed Szymanski to the hospital for surgery. Dick later said that the surgeons told him he would have been in major trouble in just one more hour. Szymanski has always credited Mrs. Cook for saving his life.
